Molson shuts Ontario brewery; 414 workers lose jobs

Molson Companies Ltd, a brewery based in Toronto, Ontario, is closing its Barrie, Ontario, facility, leaving 414 people jobless. The move is part of the brewery's plan to consolidate its operations in Toronto and improve its annual pretax profit by C$30 million for the year ending Mar 31, 2002. As a result of the closure, Molson will take a restructuring charge of C$188 million, including total severance packages worth C$44 million.
