Pittman gets prime post at media titan

America Online (AOL) Pres and former Time Warner executive Bob Pittman has been appointed co-Chief Operating Officer of AOL Time Warner. He will handle the subscription services, advertising and commerce operations of the conglomerate, including AOL and Time Warner's cable systems, magazines, cable channels including Home Box Office, the Warner Brothers network and business development. These lines will contribute roughly 68% of AOL Time Warner's projected revenues in 2001 and 86% of its cash flow.

If Murdoch gets into satellite TV..

News Corp CEO Rupert Murdoch could profoundly change the TV marketplace if he wins in his effort to gain control of DirecTV, his sixth attempt to enter the US satellite business. However, there is no consensus whether giving Murdoch access to DirecTV's nearly 10 million customers would benefit consumers. The move could make Murdoch t he man to make DirecTV a dynamic rival to cable. On the other hand, it would also make DirecTV just one more weapon in the elaborate arsenal of media assets controlled by Murdoch and his powerful allies.

NBC News chief gets president, COO post
Article Abstract:
Andrew Lack, chief of NBC News, has been appointed president and COO of National Broadcasting Company Inc. Lack, who helped build MSNBC and the Dateline franchise, will oversee the network's entertainment and news operations, company-owned stations, ad sales and affiliate relations. He will report directly to CEO Bob Wright, who will have direct management of sports, CNBC International and finance. Wright said Lack is the right man for the job, and also the most logical and appropriate person to bring into the two posts.
