Child dangers ignored: 17 firms kept problems quiet
Article Abstract:
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission is seeking $400,000 in civil penalty against Hasbro because of the firm's failure to report the potential danger that its carriers bring to consumers. The commission claimed that Hasbro waited until there were already 12 reports of injuries caused by the unlatching of handles on infant carriers before it reported the matter. Hasbro is the sixth company to face severe penalties for delaying or totally not reporting safety hazards to authorities.

Suffering in silence
Article Abstract:
Manufacturers of children's strollers and carriers have delayed reporting acidents caused by their products to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). Cosco reported about the incidents only after CPSC learned of the problem on its own and recalled the strollers, which caused over 200 injuries, one year after 3,000 complaints started coming in. Hasbro is also guilty of the same failure to report seven skull fractures caused by its carriers.

Evenflo to recall carriers
Article Abstract:
Evenflo will recall approximately 3.4 million Joyride infant car seats/carriers on May 1, 2001, due to a faulty handle which can cause the seat to flip forward and injure babies. The recall is the latest in a string of recalls of one of the most troublesome child products. All of the recalls have been caused by failure of the handles while the carriers are used outside a car. Evenflo's recall is its second.
