Australian banks are promoting banking over the phone or on the Internet as a way of cutting costs. A study by Price Waterhouse and ACA Research found that face-to-face customer transactions cost banks between $25 and $50 per transaction, while phone systems using Interactive Voice Response technology cost between $4 to $8 per call.
