NAACP campaign changed more than TV
Article Abstract:
Television broadcasters have relented to NAACP CEO Kweisi Mfume's demands to have more diversity at all levels in network TV. ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox have all agreed to hire more minorities, apparently mindful of Mfume's calculating nature. In addition to the NAACP's 1 million members and donors, Mfume has increased the clout of his organization by forming alliances with other organizations, such as the National Latino Media Coalition and American Indians in Film & Television.

Network's ownership might soon be settled
Article Abstract:
The ownership and future of No. 5 US television network United Paramount Network (UPN) will be decided on Mar 20, 2000, when BHC Communications decided whether to sell its 50% stake in the network for $5 million to partner Viacom, or to buy Viacom's interest for the same price. UPN Chief Dean Valentine says that its ultimate owner needs to be a firm that has the financial strength for future investments, access to a production studio and a collection of TV stations for national distribution.
