Newbridge loses bulk of multimillion-dollar contract

Newbridge Networks Corp of Kanata, Ontario, has lost most of a projected C$333-million contract to supply the equipment for WIC Connexus' high- capacity wireless network to Cisco Systems. Newbridge was awarded its two- thirds share of the four-year, C$500-million contract in Aug 1998. Telecommuications networking equipment supplier Cisco Systems Inc of San Jose, CA, is also the supplier to Shaw Communications Inc, which owns 52% of Connexus parent WIC Western International Communications Ltd.

Newbridge shares fall 9% following loss of contract to Cisco
Article Abstract:
Newbridge Networks Corp, a Kanata, Ontario-based wireless equipment company, has reportedly lost a lucrative contract with Toronto, Ontario- based WIC Connexus to US-based rival Cisco Systems Inc. The contract, which Newbridge shared with Alcatel SA of France, was worth between C$450 million and C$500 million when it was announced in Aug 1998. Newbrige had hoped to secure two-thirds of the revenue through that contract.
