Northern Telecom rumoured as suitor for Bay Networks
Article Abstract:
Northern Telecom Ltd. of Brampton, Ontario, was rumored to have interest in acquiring Santa Clara, CA-based Bay Networks Inc. But according to news reports, Bay Networks refused the takeover bid of Northern Telecom, and the former is preparing to seek other offers. For months, Bay Networks has been the subject of takeover reports and that Northern Telecom and Murray Hill, NJ-based Lucent Technologies Inc. are considered the most possible suitors. An analyst comments Bay Networks would be a good buy for the two firms since the company is a specialist in networking equipment for computers, while Lucent and Northern Telecom are specialists in telecommunications equipment, and the two firms are attempting to incorporate telephone and computer systems.
