David Brown, who is the chairman of the Ontario Securities Commission, is advocating the formation of a new regulatory body that would oversee the securities sector throughout Canada's provinces and territories. The OSC, which formerly has opposed the formation of a national body that would harmonize securities rules, supports a securities regulatory body that would be controlled by the provinces.

OSC says TSE can keep regulatory power

David Brown, the chairman of the Ontario Securities Commission, said that the Toronto Stock Exchange can retain its regulatory operations after the advent of electronic stock markets. TSE, which has transformed itself into a for-profit company, will make its regulatory operations a separate division.
