Oil insiders exploiting growth gap

Shareholder of energy companies and income trusts are gainers with the recent spiral in oil prices. However, the real gainers are the insiders who have invested in oil companies through private placement in spinoffs of energy trusts. Investments made at the spinoff's net asset value more than doubles once the stocks are listed on stock market, generating substantial profits for the investor.

The investors are driving oil companies to a shortterm focus, which reduced the supplies and brought the price to U.S. $50 per barrel. This happened when Petro-Canada paid $3.2billion for its first major international foray by buying overseas assets of Veba Oil & Gas BmbH.
