Oil patch firm withdraws bids for stakes in 40 rivals
Article Abstract:
Junior oil and gas company Westlinks Resources Ltd has withdrawn its proposal to acquire large stakes in 40 Canadian energy companies after the staff at the Ontario and Alberta securities commissions rejected their plan. Westlinks, with 2.6 million shares and reported revenue of C$1.8 million in 1998, has earlier submitted a series of bids for stakes of 20% to 25% in 40 oil and gas producers. The regulators said that Westlinks' bid, valued at more than $2.4 billion, is structurally flawed.
