Onex boss woos support from Reform on merger

Onex Corp Chairman Gerald Schwartz is seeking the support of the Reform Party for the merger of Canadian Airlines International Ltd and Air Canada. Schwartz also attempted to ease concerns about his supposed interest as an ally of the Liberal Party. The executive is also dismissing negative comments from Air Canada regarding its advance purchase of the carrier's stock before the bid was made on Aug 24, 1999.

UA plans to block access to Reform name
Article Abstract:
Canada's Reform Party announced a new strategy which is designed to limit the efforts of dissidents in future elections. A new political party, which is now being formed as the united alternative (UA), will retain rights to the Reform name in order to block future candidates from running under the Reform banner.
