Builders of the electronic mall
Article Abstract:
Balisoft Technologies Inc. of Toronto, Ontario, hopes to give a human touch to electronic retailing. According to the company's founder, Mark Skapinker, the company wants to introduce salespeople in on-line shopping. This means that instead of giving the customer's credit card to a vending machine, it will be handed to a person in charge of the account. Skapinker hopes that concern for security will help drive growth in the company's sales. The company's software enables a customer to speak to on-line sales and service representatives, using the speakers and microphone on their personal computers.

Ex-Com Dev director defends actions
Article Abstract:
Com Dev International Ltd.'s former director, William Fitzgerald, asserts that he had no wrongdoing when he sold his Com Dev shares worth $2.6 million two weeks before the stock declined in value due to depressed earnings. Fitzgerald insisted that he had no information about the forthcoming results in the Cambridge, Ontario-based firm when he divested two-thirds of his interest on May 25 and 26, 1998. Aside from resigning from the satellite and phone systems company, Fitzgerald has also agreed to compensate the buyers of his shares for their losses.
