The Progressive Conservatives have released documents showing that Michel Vennat, the president of the Business Development Bank of Canada, had close business ties to the daughter of Prime Minister Jean Chretien. The Prime Minister's relationship with the BDC is already under fire due to a controversial loan from the bank that went to a personal friend.

WTO accord imperils Wheat Board

Member of the 147-nation World Trade Organization (WTO) revived global trade negotiation with a framework agreement aimed at cutting agricultural tariffs and subsidies on August 2, 2004. The framework agreement is not a trade deals in itself, but an outline for more detailed negotiations scheduled for in 2005.
