Intertrust Technologies has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Microsoft over its Media Player software which comes with its new Windows XP operating system. Intertrust claims a patent over digital rights management technology which controls how information is authorized to be used in file sharing. Intertrust also claims that Microsoft has placed proprietary information about digital rights management on the Internet.

9 states ask judge to put restrictions on Microsoft systems
Article Abstract:
9 states that were unhappy about the Justice Department's settlement with Microsoft Corp. have requested that restrictions be put on some of the software concern's products. The proposed restrictions include asking Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly to force Microsoft to offer stripped down versions of its operating system so that competitors could provide their own versions of products like Word and Internet Explorer.
