Pixar, Creator of 'Finding Nemo,' Sees End to Its Disney Partnership

Pixar Animation Studios has decided to terminate its 12-year relationship with the Walt Disney Co. Steven Jobs and Michael Eisner were unable to reconcile their professional and personal differences and continue one of the most successful partnerships in the motion picture industry. Until now, Disney has been the distributor of Pixar films with a 12.5% box office benefit for Disney in addition to a 50-50 split of film profits. Disney also retained rights to Pixar films and will distribute two new films "The Incredibles" and "Cars."

Pixar Animation Studios has decided to continue its partnership with the Walt Disney Co. Insiders are not sure how much of the unsettled relationship between Steve Jobs and Michael Eisner played a role in a contract that was beneficial to both film producers. They split film profits and Disney received 12.5% of box office earnings. The two companies could not resolve disagreements over future distribution rights and film ownership over two movies under contract, "Cars" and "The Incredibles."
