Prairie phone firms eye alliances
Article Abstract:
Prairie telephone firms Saskatchewan Telecommunications (SaskTel) and Manitoba Telecom Services Inc. of Winnipeg, Canada, are each considering alliances with BCT.Telus Communications Inc. and Bell Canada's national network. BCT.Telus would be the resulting company of the proposed merger of Burnaby, Canada-based BC Telecom Inc. and Telus Corp. of Edmonton, Canada. However, executives at SaskTel, which is owned by the government, and Manitoba Telecom stressed that neither telephone firm is seeking to combine with either BCT.Telus or Bell Canada.
