Quebecor sets new course for Canoe.ca Web site

Montreal, Canada-based Quebecor Inc is eyeing to boost marketing, acquisition and partnership efforts of Canoe LP, which owns Canoe.ca. Analysts said Quebecor will have a hands-on approach to Canoe to boost its financial performance which suffered from a lack of advertisement. Canoe's expansion plans also include a bigger presence in Western Canada and the introduction of a French-language site in fall 1999.

Open Text buys stake in Internet firm
Article Abstract:
Communities.com, a Cupertino, CA-based Web site that allows users to communicate using voice, video or text, is selling a 15% stake in Open Text Corp of Waterloo, Ontario. The investment brings the number of Internet companies in which Open Text has a stake to six. Founded in 1995, Communities.com's early investors include Softbank Corp of Japan and Bank of Nova Scotia.
