Ralph Lauren makes $79-million bid for Club Monaco

Polo Ralph Lauren Corp has offered C$79 million to acquire Canadian clothing retailer Club Monaco Inc. Club Monaco is currently expanding its operations in the US. Ralph Lauren said the bid, which is equal to $13 per share, is being supported by the boards of directors of both firms. News of Ralph Lauren's offer seemed to have investors' support since Club Monaco's shares have risen by $1.65 to $12.65 at the Toronto Stock Exchange.

Venture capital firm hits jackpot

Emeryille, Calif.-based Ask Jeeves Inc. has acquired Natick, Mass.-based Direct Hit Inc. for $506 million. The deal, which valued Toronto, Ont.-based Mosaic Venture Partners stake in Direct Hit at $50 million (Canadian), gave Mosaic a 1,328% return on its investment in Direct Hit.
