Regional airlines alter the economics of flight
Article Abstract:
Major US airlines are rapidly expanding their use of small, cheaper-to- operate 'regional' jets. The major carriers are using regional jets to replace slow turboprops and larger, less-efficient aircraft on some routes, and to introduce service to new cities. By 2006, regional jets will account for large blocks of most fleets by major airlines. Around 1,000 such planes have been ordered by US carriers for delivery during the next five years.
