Researchers say airlines fell behind on quality
Article Abstract:
A research study revealed that the quality of service given by passenger airlines to its customers declined in 1998. According to marketing expert Dean Headley, who is also a Wichita State University marketing professor, the number of air service complaints, as recorded by the Department of Transportation, have increased to 26%. The research, which used a new criteria to measure the quality of air service, also ranked the 10 best airlines, with US Airways garnering the first place and Continental Airlines hitting the second place.

Regional jets flying high
Article Abstract:
Regional air travel in many parts of the US is benefiting from the entry of regional jets. The drafting into local services by these jets, with seating capacities of 50 to 75 people per flight, have resulted in the increase in nonstop routes from 99 in 1996 to 329 in 1999. Regional jets, which include the Embraer ERJ from Brazil and the Bombardier Canadair RJ, are capable of posting profits even if only half of 50 seats are occupied.
