Results of Steroid Testing Spur Baseball to Set Tougher Rules
Article Abstract:
Major League Baseball has announced stricter standards and punishments for steroid use. The first year of random testing produced results showed 5% of 1,438 players' tests that were positive. Of those, 240 were repeat tests, making the number of players' testing positive ranging from 70 to 100. MLB said that in the future penalties might be added and the players' using drugs will be announced publicly. There is concern that steroid use is widespread and could hurt the reputation of players' accomplishments which may turn out to be enhanced by drug use instead of natural ability.
