Crude, heating oil prices geyser
Article Abstract:
Tight crude oil supplies and the refusal of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries to boost production have continued to push crude oil prices higher. As a result, sharp increases in home heating bills and little relief for consumers in gasoline prices at least through Dec 31, 2000, are expected. Natural gas prices have also been surging partly because of a gas explosion that disrupted a major line to California and partly because of expectations that winter consumption will increase from winter 1999, when the weather was warmer than expected.

Rite Aid CEO Grass resigns in wake of trouble-filled year
Article Abstract:
Rite Aid Corp CEO Martin Grass has resigned from his post in Oct 18, 1999, amidst increasing financial troubles in the drugstore chain. The chain, which manages 3,800 stores in 30 states, has been in deep financial constraints since last year due to Grass' aggressive expansion plans. Grass' strategy has plunged the company into a string of debts, which caused its shares to fall over 80% since Jan 1999. Rite Aid said that Grass' vacated position will be temporarily filled up by CEO Peter Noonan, while a search for a permanent CEO is underway.
