Rush is on to grab songs in wake of Napster ruling

Redwood City, Calif.-based Napster Inc. has been ordered to shut down its online music trading service by a U.S. federal judge. The ruling is expected to prompt a stampede to other Web-based music sites, such as Los Angeles, Calif.-based Scour.com, which offer similar services.

Bertelsmann joins with Napster

Redwood City, Calif.-based Napster Inc. and Germany's Bertelsmann AG have formed a partnership to rescue the embattled online music exchange company. Napster, which is fighting copyright infringement lawsuits, will create a membership-based music distribution service.
