Software to predict power needs
Article Abstract:
As demand for electricity increases, utilities seek ways to better manage existing rescources. Research by Dr. Mark Ivey, and others, at Sandia National Laboratory, suggests that the industry could profit from the use of probability predicting software to model the continental power grid. This risk assessment software would help utility planners test the power system's response to various scenarios, rather than using historic weather and usage numbers only for demand forecasting. One difficulty in doing this is getting power companies, in the newly deregulated market, to share the accurate up-to-date data needed for this software.
