Sacred sacrilege
Article Abstract:
The Northern Territory Seafood council accused the Northern Land council, which represents Aboriginal land owners, of trying to gain exclusive control over rivers, creeks and seas by lodging 21 sacred site claims in Blue Mud Bay and offering fisherman the chance to buy exclusive access to fish within the sites. The Australian courts indicated that even a successful native title sea claim by the Aborigines would never give them exclusive control of the seas.
