Dayton Hudson hopes name change hits bull's-eye

Dayton Hudson Corp is changing its corporate name to Target Stores Inc, a move that will take effect by the end of Jan 2000. The two main reasons for the name change is Target's great impact on Dayton Hudson's revenue and earnings and its growth potential. Target is the name of Dayton Hudson's discount retail chain that consists of 914 stores in the US. Dayton Hudson is also planning to open 70 Target stores and 15 SuperTargets nationwide in 2000.

Sears drops Benetton after controversial death row ads

Sears, Roebuck and Co has dumped its Benetton USA Line because of the latter's controversial 'We, on Death Row' ad campaign that featured North Carolina inmates. The decision to severe ties with Italian company, Benetton Group SpA, was made after a coalition of victims' rights and law enforcement groups rallied in front of the Sears store in Houston, TX. Meanwhile, Benetton is facing fraud and trespassing charges filed by Missouri Attorney General Jay Nixon.
