The convergence of 1,500 Olympic athletes and officials at the 1996 Summer Games will undoubtedly result in romances and sexual activity. The athletes have access to condoms and some coaches are recommending abstinence. However, after athletes compete, they tend to throw caution to the wind.

The 1996 Summer Olympics suffered from excess commercialism and negative responses to the participation of professional athletes. The Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games did a poor job of organizing the Games, and American TV focused heavily on only US athletes.
