NBC builds Internetwork
Article Abstract:
NBC Television Network has announced its plan to form a publicly traded Internet company called NBC Internet. NBC said that the planned company is aimed to collectively tap into TV viewers, Web surfers and on-line buyers. As part of its plan, NBC will combine the operations of Snap.com with electronic-commerce direct marketing company Xoom.com. The planned NBC Internet will get $880 million in NBC advertising and promotion over 10 years.

Upstart NUE-TV goes up against powerhouse BET

New Urban Entertainment must compete with a larger BET which is also aimed at African Americans. BET is being sold to Viacom, the third leading media cmpany, for $3 billion. New Urban Entertainment must, therefore, must compete with the deep pockets and far-reaching muscle of BET's new parent. New Urban Entertainment is currently on AT and T's and Time Warner cable systems, two of the six largest distributors in the US.
