Telemarketers jailed, in a Canadian first
Article Abstract:
A Canadian court for the first time has put in prison convicted operators of a telemarketing firm for misleading advertising. The telemarketers have pleaded guilty to allegations that they bilked btween $30,000 and $100,000 a week from as many as 1,200 customers. Until the prison sentence, convicted telemarketers have only been fined. Judge Luc Trudel of the Quebec Superior Court said the jail sentence was needed to deter the growing incidence of telemarketing crimes in Montreal.
