The exposure of beryllium and other metals from naval vessels has caused severe lung problems to navy personnel. A memo from the Navy's Commodore Geoff Geraghty to Veterans' Affairs and junior Defense Minister De-Anne Kelly indicated a secretive approach to the health of thousands of navy personnel exposed to these potentially fatal poisons.
