Australians lament the influence of the American lingo in everyday use and feel that it is time somebody stands up to all this and puts an end to this verbal invasion. Australians are not used to words like gas, dude and everyday slang words used by the ordinary Americans, neither are they used to abbreviations like 9/11 and use of such words is causing consternation to the older residents.

The great and the good of the horticultural world assembled for a literary lunch organized by the Friends of the Botanic Gardens. The event was organized to coincide with the annual Sydney in Bloom garden show and to make people aware of horticulture.
