Ticketless travel gains fans, but qualms persists
Article Abstract:
An increasing number of airlines are using electronic tickets instead of issuing traditional paper tickets. The number of e-tickets sold weekly by travel agents jumped from 15,106 in Jan 1997 to 1,450,974 in June 1999. The trend is reflected in the deal between American Airlines and Canadian Airlines to jointly issue electronic tickets, allowing ticketless travel for trips involving more than one airline. United Airlines and American are also planning to start sharing e-tickets beginning the summer of 1999.
