Article Abstract:
Smokers with cancer, respiratory disease and other illnesses related to their habit are suing the tobacco industry for 50 years. The tobacco industry has beat back consumer lawsuits, initially by rejecting charges that tobacco posed health risks and later by arguing that smokers were responsible for any risks involved in using their products.
