Mark Latham got his highs from the applause of strangers on the ground, but he was up in the air when a blast from the past threw him on line. The momentum he had gained appeared for nought and when he sailed high above Queensland's northern coastline, hurtling through the ether from Bundaberg he had reason to breathe a silent thanks to the Axe, though he would never dream of such a thing.
