Two banks form card venture

Bank of Montreal and Montreal, Que.-based Royal Bank of Canada will form a merchant credit card processing company. The two banks, which failed to merge in 1998, must receive approval from the Competition Bureau and the Superintendent of Financial Institutions.

Toronto Dominion Bank (TD) has reached a deal in which it will open bank outlets in Wal-Mart Stores Inc.'s retail stores in the United States. TD will open the outlets in over 2,000 Wal-Mart stores under its own brand name.
