UAW plans to turn up heat on Saturn
Article Abstract:
General Motors Corp. will face heated labor discussions with the United Auto Workers (UAW) at the Saturn plant in Spring Hill, TN. UAW officials vowed to intensify talks with Saturn officials in order to determine the role the union will play at Saturn. Since it began operation in 1990, Saturn has been regarded as a haven of labor-management unity, with workers having a say in a number of decision-making functions. But the workers got angry when GM began folding many of Saturn's responsibilities into its small-car division the past few years. The irate workers voted to launch a strike, if necessary, to settle and renew its partnership with Saturn officials.
