Inflation stays low as '98 rate comes to 0.9%
Article Abstract:
Canada has posted an inflation rate of 0.9% in 1998, the seventh consecutive year that inflation has remained below 3%. Economists believe that the central bank should cut interest rates to stimulate the softening economy. The combination of low inflation rate, high unemployment rate, economic slowdown, a federal budget surplus and a deficit of C$40 billion are factors that point to a cut on interest rates.
