Virtual stores' biggest fear: holiday outages
Article Abstract:
Online retailers are wary of the huge volume of Internet buyers during the 1999 holiday season that might result in outages such as what was experienced by Amazon.com and ToysRUs.com. To prepare for such problems, e-commerce sites are adding more servers, bandwidth and customer service representatives to handle a high volume of shoppers. Internet traffic during the 1999 holiday season is expected to double from 1998.
