Wal-Mart to compete against supermarkets
Article Abstract:
Wal-Mart, the largest retailer in the US based in Bentonville, AR, intends to tryout a hybrid supermarket that will compete directly with grocer, convenience and drug stores. Wal-Mart is thinking of opening three concept stores, which will sell food and drugs and offer drive-in pharmacy, in Arkansas cities by fall of 1998. Tentatively, the stores will be called Wal-Mart Food and Drug Express, and each will have 40,000 square feet of space, which is slightly smaller than usual grocery stores. The concept stores will allow the company to improve its hallmark customer service.
