Article Abstract:
Jack Doolan, born in the Victorian goldmining town of Castlemaine, was jailed for 14 years at the age of 16 for offences like stealing a horse, armed robbery of a widow and robbery under arms. The folk song 'The Wild Colonial Boy', which was written about Jack, does not bear much relationship to the unexceptional facts of his short and ill-fated bushranging career.
