Nissan to develop full-size trucks
Article Abstract:
Japanese automaker Nissan has disclosed plans of developing and manufacturing a line of full-size trucks for the US market. The firm's decision comes at a time it reported a loss for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2000. The move is seen by analysts as a message to its competitors that Nissan is not in a defensive mode due to the control of French automaker Renault. The first truck model expected to be introduced by the firm is a full-size pickup with a V-8 engine.

Automakers have too many trucks
Article Abstract:
Lehman Bros analyst Nicholas Lobaccaro is advising investors to sell their GM and DaimlerChrysler stocks and buy Ford Motors shares instead. He said both GM and DaimlerChrysler have big inventory levels, especially in trucks. His view was supported by Burnham Securities analyst David Healy who believed both companies would have to increase their incentives to car buyers so they can reduce inventories. He added that higher incentives would cost GM and DaimlerChrysler $300 per vehicle in pretax earnings.

Workhorse trucks get cushy touches
Article Abstract:
Medium-duty trucks are offering more features to help business owners keep drivers satisfied. For instance, Ford is debuting its redesigned 2000-model Class 6 and 7 trucks as the F-650 and F-750. General Motor Corp.'s 1999 C-series truck focuses on comfort as well as hauling capacity. In addition, air conditioning and automatic transmission are becoming more available in most medium-duty trucks. The improvement in trucks' features is not only due to a driver shortage. It is also due to the decision of drivers to change jobs annually.
