Academic research: K+ channels and an affair of the heart
Article Abstract:
One clinical pharmacologist acquired an interest in her field after studying calcium channels in the heart and cardiovascular system at the Pfizer Central Research in Switzerland. Her research on cardiac arrythmias helped her decide to continue on a doctoral course in pharmacology, which can be funded by student fellowships provided by the UK government. She acquired a grant from the British Pharmacological society and was able to work on the regulation of potassium channels in the heart.

Contract research in pharmacology
Article Abstract:
A graduate of zoology at the Bristol University embarked on a career in pharmacology after working an the renin-angiotensin system at the school's veterinary department. He was awarded a postgraduate fellowship at the university to study the kallikrein-kinin system before moving on to research in asthma therapeutics at the Sandoz laboratory in Switzerland. He has also worked on drug development as a contract researcher for Syntex and Quintiles.

Pharmacology and biotechnology: a career in clinical development
Article Abstract:
An industrial researcher in pharmacology prepared for her career by taking courses in physiology and respiratory pharmacology at Chelsea College and the Royal Free Hospital School in London, England. She first worked with Sandoz in Switzerland and the moved on to Roche's inflammation research team. She is currently working as a research division manager at the biotechnology firm Celltech.
