Germany: Merck forms consumer health care unit
Article Abstract:
German Darmstadt-based Merck KGaA has founded a separate holding company for the Consumer Health Care (CHC) division. The new company, which creates the basis for further expansion, includes Merck Selbstmedikation GmbH. Seven Seas Ltd of the UK and Monot SA of France will be included in Merck CHC in 2002.

Austria: Antibiotics research by Biochemie

Biochemie GmbH has opened an Antibiotic Research Institute (ABRI) in Vienna. The facility next to Novartis Research Institute comprises 12 laboratories with 50 staff. It is working on new agents for antibiotic therapies.
