Inverse agonism: pharmacological curiosity or potential therapeutic strategy?
Article Abstract:
G protein-coupled receptor-drug action shows a spectrum of efficacies that ranges from zero for full antagonists to one for full agonists. However, some studies have indicated that not all antagonists show a zero efficacy and that some display 'inverse agonism.' The possible therapeutic benefits of inverse agonists have yet to be established but the extra dynamic range that they can give to receptor function regulation deserves further studies.

Romancing receptor research at Verona classification meeting
Article Abstract:
The International Union of Pharmacology and the European Federation of Pharmacological Societies sponsored a symposium from Sep. 21-22, 1995, in Verona, Italy, to establish guidelines for the classification of receptors. Participants presented several issues important to the characterization of receptors in recombinant systems. Pharmacological data from experimental systems were analyzed to determine the criteria for receptor classification.
