SWITZERLAND: NEW POLYAMIDE BY EMS-CHEMIE
Article Abstract:
Swiss Ems-Chemie, which is concentrating on polyamide specialities and has given up the production of polyester fibre, has brought on stream a new production plant for Grivory HT polyamide in Domat. It spent SFr 30mn on the polyphthalamide (PPA) factory and another SFr 30mn on research and development. Compared with other PA types, Grivory HT is said to feature higher stability and stiffness and better liquid and gas barrier properties. The factory is based on a new production technology developed with the company's knowhow, in which the production of the thermoplastic material takes place in a single step. The plant has an annual capacity of about 3,000 tonnes of polymer, but it can be doubled. Ems-Chemie is already planning to extend the range of HT types, including fire-retardant and extruded types.

SWITZERLAND: MADER EXPAND SYNTHETIC RESIN OUTPUT
Article Abstract:
Killwangen-based Mader Kunstharze AG is expanding the production of UV-cured resin systems from 4,000 tpy to 4,800 tpy. Currently the production of unsaturated polyester resins contributes 40% to turnover. Mader is Switzerland's market leader in this segment, supplying vehicle body and wagon manufacturers, the sanitary sector and the machine-building industry, including cable-car manufacturers. The company is a systems supplier for the production of formed parts with UP resins. Raw materials for the paint industry account for 25% of turnover. In the past three years, Mader Kunstharze has seen 10-20% increases in turnover.
