Working from home: freelance medical writing

A pharmacologist found a career as a freelance medical writer that allowed her to work at home and attend to her family's needs at the same time. She studied pharmacology at Edinburgh University in Scotland where she worked on characterizing the platelet activating factor. She moved to Worcester, England and received assignments for medical publications. Her work also involves editing research papers, clinical trial reports, product monographs and conference newsletters.

Article Abstract:
A graduate of biology and chemistry from the French Lycee in London, England decided to pursue a career in pharmacology by taking a course at the Chelsea College. The course allowed her to train in a laboratory setting as a researcher under Clive Page and John Morley in Sandoz, Basle, Switzerland. Her PhD in pharmacology was acquired at the University of London and she is currently working on cyclooxygenase enzymes at the Monsanto Co. in St. Louis.

Careers in pharmaceutical clinical development
Article Abstract:
A pharmacologist recalls his initial decision to enter the field after being hired as a clinical researcher by a pharmaceutical firm at the end of his medical school term. He became involved in conducting Phase I trials before joining Glaxo, which supported his doctoral research on adverse drug reaction. He has since joined Amgen's International Clinical Safety Dept. as a clinical research associate.
