Boom (nuclear) and bust (economic) in Asia
Article Abstract:
Asia faces an uncertain future as economic depression and nuclear proliferation continue to put the region in an uncompromising position. The economic crisis in East Asia is being driven by low-waged mass production and the resulting oversupply, a problem which has been exacerbated by China's adoption of an export-oriented economic policy. Meanwhile, India and Pakistan try to intimidate each other by conducting nuclear tests, further pulling down the regional economy. Asia needs to make the necessary adjustments to revive its moribund economy and promote peace in the region if it wants to see better times ahead.

India vs. Pakistan: the clash of civilizations goes nuclear
Article Abstract:
Noted foreign policy analyst and political scientist Samuel P. Huntington sees the nuclear tests conducted by South Asian neighbors India and Pakistan as the beginning of an ideological confrontation between two different civilizations. He hints, though, that the possibility of a war between India and Pakistan may have been reduced since they are now aware of each other's defense capabilities. Huntington also believes that the nuclear testing by India, Pakistan or any other nation is a sign of defiance against globalization led by the US.

Global fusion: Asian ideals and Anglo-Saxon norms
Article Abstract:
The Asian economic crisis is but a phase towards the achievement of a more mature interdependence and not the fatal aftermath of globalization that some experts would like to believe. Despite the crisis, the features of the Asian economic model, which includes strong social values, high savings and investment and group orientation, have remained. East Asian culture upholds the values necessary in closing the gap between East Asian and Anglo-Saxon standards in the global market.
