British defence planning in a changing world
Article Abstract:
British military policy in the post-Cold War world must take into account both the decreased threat from Eastern Europe and the increased global uncertainty associated with the collapse of old governments. British military planners must decide what is most important in an atmosphere of budgetary constraint. Choices include what degree of allied involvement in military ventures is wanted, the importance of a defense force's versatility as opposed to size and the importance of short versus long-range planning. The British must decide what role they wish to play in the new global order.

Britain's defence options
Article Abstract:
The 1991 British defense review, 'Options for Change,' represents an unfortunate return to bipartisan consensus in British defense policy. The Labour and Conservative parties have mistakenly both adopted a defense review which does not reinvent Britain's role in NATO and Europe. Britain should retain an independent nuclear deterrent, fully back British management of NATO's Rapid Reaction Corps and encourage other European nations to take on regional security responsibilities.

Plan for the Bosnias
Article Abstract:
The British government announced in May 1997 a Strategic Defense Review (SDR) which aims at military planning and the demands of a dispute in case of a high intensity conflict. SDR is a foreign policy driven initiative and outside bodies have been invited to send their thoughts and concerns about the initiative. The British government hopes to be better prepared and respond quickly if its territories are ever threatened.
