Budget cuts will have devastating effect on HUD and the poor
Article Abstract:
Budget cuts in the Dept. of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) will affect the elderly and minorities living in HUD-financed homes, in public housing or on HUD funds. The Senate plans to slash $19 billion from federal social programs that will reduce HUD budget by $3.8 billion. The House of Representative proposes to cut HUD budget by $7.2 billion. The head of HUD estimates that 27,000 residents, mainly the elderly will be displaced and more than 30,000 families will not be able to move to transitional or permanent housing. Moreover, many communities would lose funds for rehabilitating the elderly.

Movin' into the fast lane on the information superhighway
Article Abstract:
Access information superhighway is not feasible for everyone, especially the minority communities since they lack the resources and the knowledge about usage. Survey reveals that only 8.4% African Americans youngsters and adults have computer at home while 18.3% whites use computers at home. Some internet users feel that the new information may serve to spread racist and sexist ideas while others feel such a situation will not be harmful as it will allow people to know the existing problems in the society.

Black agencies fill void in advertising industry
Article Abstract:
African-Americans are gradually gaining stature in the US's advertising industry, which has initiated large-scale hiring of ethnic minority employees to bring about racial equality. The American Association of Advertising Agencies has implemented the Diversity Program to eliminate prejudices and to hire people solely on their professional merits. The association has evolved an intern program to recruit 40 promising minority students annually to help them acquire jobs in the industry.
