Article Abstract:
This article contains laws in effect as of 1997 about protecting the rights of both parties concerning leased and rental housing in China. Municipal offices assisting public security, requirements for individuals renting or leasing property, and public security responsibilities are described.

Regulations on applications for temporary residence cards
Article Abstract:
This article gives laws from 1997 about registering people leaving their permanent residence for temporary employment in other locations. Categories of such workers, issuance of temporary cards for one year, and regulations for temporary residents are discussed.

The "hukou," or Household Registration System, was a significant feature of Chinese government under the leadership of Mao Zedong. Beginning in the late 1950s and lasting for over 20 years, people in this system were not allowed to relocate.
